Very often, when writing music, my process begins with stumbling across a new sound/instrument that I haven’t heard before and playing around with the keys until I feel I’m on the path to something good. Sometimes it’s a path that reveals itself quickly and sometimes it can turn out to be a dead-end.
I came up with this little excerpt last night after throwing away nearly 7 minutes of music I’d composed last week for my upcoming album Meditations. I was listening back to what I had and ended up hating it. Rather than waste time trying to salvage it, I hit delete and moved on to trying something new.
This short passage is what came out of that session. It’s a good example of something that makes me feel I’m onto something. A small seed of an idea that will—with a little nurturing, care and a bit of luck—flower into something great.
What do you think of it so far? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
