Hey you, I’m back into the swing of things here on Substack. I took a tiny hiatus but missed it dearly and am keen to get writing and recording again. I’ve just finished a letter about my time spent staying the night in an 179 year old sake brewery in Japan and I just need to record the voiceover for that. I’m also working on some new music 🎵
But for now, here's another collection of things that have caught my attention:
🍃 Something really special happens whenever Mount Kimbie are joined by King Krule in the recording studio. There must be some sort of magic in the air. It’s happened before and this latest track from them is no exception. I love the warm & hazy energy that carries this track forward.
🍃 Next Saturday (July 6th), is National Meadow Day here in the UK and I just think that’s wonderfully romantic! I’ll take the opportunity to go and spend a bit of time in nature. Here’s a meadow soundscape over on SoundCloud that I found.
🍃 Obituary for a Quiet Life. I was deeply moved when I read this obit written by a grandson for his late “papaw”. The tagline sums it up perfectly: A man passes away without a word in the mountains of North Carolina, and his grandson sets out to write about the importance of a seemingly unimportant life.
🍃 A short 17-minute video that looks at the life of Alice Coltrane and her children shortly after the death of her husband John. You should watch this even if only for the mesmerising part where she starts playing the harp.
🍃 And finally, a very long but immensely helpful article from Todoist; How to Organize Your Life. For someone like me, who has multiple passions and hobbies and things that get me excited, I love stuff like this for seeing how other people keep all of their balls in the air.
Thank you for being here, let me know what’s inspiring you recently. Hitting subscribe is always welcome and please do share with someone who might enjoy. If you'd like to support this newsletter please buy one of my albums over on Bandcamp, or consider becoming a paid subscriber here on Substack.
