It’s been a pretty long time since Forté #5 (6 years, 8 months and 14 days actually), but I thought I’d give it another shot. I always love the idea of writing lists of things that inspire me. It’s nice to stumble upon them in the future (10 years next time perhaps?)
A few things that have inspired me lately:
⭕️ This gorgeously-paced video of Japanese craftsmen building a house, from the ground up, using only hand tools. The care and dedication to their craft is deeply moving.
⭕️ Teenage Engineering released a field recorder; the TP-7. It’s a thing of pure beauty. I want to disappear into a forest with just this in hand and capture a bunch of gorgeous sounds.
⭕️ Material: Making and the Art of Transformation; a wonderful book written by Nick Kary that goes seriously deep into the idea of what it means to create. At times it can get a little bit word salad-y but I really appreciate the thought he’s put into the topic. Listen to him reading it as an audiobook and that’s nicer.
⭕️ I love almost all the music that Royce Wood Jr puts out into the world and this new track, You’re So F*****’ Perfect, is so fuckin’ perfect.
⭕️ This thought-provoking question from Steph Smith:
“How much of what you did today was simply due to inertia?
Never get so busy that you forget to actively design your life.”
