Soundscapes Radio was a series of music I started composing in 2019 whilst living in Tokyo. The idea was that I would write around 30~60 minutes of new music and post it to YouTube on the 1st Friday of every month. Writing that much music in a month meant that I had to be quick and unforgiving and could not let doubt/imposter syndrome/fear get in the way at all. There wasn’t time for perfection, but this forced me to become much quicker at composing and helped me hugely in shaping my sound.
Back when I started the project, I wasn’t very good at mixing and mastering though but I didn’t have the money to pay someone to do it for me. I had to learn as I went. I’m still not amazing by any stretch of the imagination, but mixing and mastering 600 minutes of music certainly helped!
Because I’m feeling a bit better about my mastering skills now I’ve decided to go back and re-master all the previous episodes of Soundscapes Radio and put them on streaming services so I can share them.
So as well as writing a new album, I’ll be deep in this little project for a while. Follow along on Spotify / Apple Music to listen as soon as they go live. Or you can listen to the originals over on Bandcamp!
Here’s Post DERIVE from episode one:
