🍃 This gorgeous new piece from Taylor Deupree and Jeremiah Fraites is sounding wonderful. Cody Ellingham and I spoke to Taylor on our podcast Conversations Late at Night around a year ago and had a wonderful free-flowing conversation about creativity and Japan among many other topics.
🍃 These lovely dog pose illustrations from my partner Chie Kamiya who’s drawing a bunch of different dogs every single day because why not?
🍃 I wrote about how important creating a Root Document has been in helping me to understand more about who I am.
🍃 This video about how Yasujiro Ozu and Kogo Noda worked together whilst writing their movies (hint: it consisted mainly of drinking a lot of sake). If you haven’t seen any of their movies may I suggest starting with Tokyo Story or Good Morning? Both are incredibly special and are a nice gateway into Ozu’s catalogue.
🍃 Whilst I was down in Suffolk last week I visited the site where they’re building a like-for-like replica of the Sutton Hoo ship that was discovered after being buried since the 7th century. The build-site is in Woodbridge, just a stone’s throw from where the original ship was found, and it’s a huge undertaking which should be finished sometime in 2025. Check the construction progress here. I’m eagerly following along!
🍃 Here’s a little excerpt of my upcoming record Meditations that I wrote about here on Substack. Progress on the album is moving somewhat and somewhere.. The writing process seems to be longer than with previous albums. Perhaps I’m becoming too critical of my own work.
🍃 And finally here’s Ryuichi Sakamoto’s final playlist, which he was crafting before he passed, to be played at his very own funeral.
