Ok, I've had the same idea that songs are already formed, maybe within us or out there in the ether, I don't know. And it's our job as musicians to "receive", "translate" or, like you wrote, unearth them. I think that's a really interesting, cool idea. I've written a couple of songs where after I finished writing, I wasn't completely happy with the melody or the rhythm or something, but no matter what changes I made, they wouldn't actually improve the song. It felt as if what I wrote is what the song needed, even though I wasn't a fan of it.

And for one of your other points, I think music is equally important even if we can't explain where our ideas come from or what it means. Even I don't know what the message is behind some of my songs! Every song and every piece of art is an expression that is unique to that artist and that can only be delivered by them.

Oh! I just stumbled upon this quote from Elizabeth Gilbert that you might enjoy:

The universe buries strange jewels deep within us all, and then stands back to see if we can find them. The hunt to uncover those jewels—that’s creative living. The courage to go on that hunt in the first place—that’s what separates a mundane existence from a more enchanted one. The often surprising results of that hunt—that’s what I call Big Magic.

Oh yea that's awesome. I like how she calls them jewels.

I'm glad these are universal thoughts! Imposter syndrome is a real thing and I've always wondered if other people have it all worked out! When you finish a song that you aren't particularly a fan of, do you release it regardless or do you save it simply as a momento?

It does feel like everyone else has everything figured out doesn’t it?

I’ve released a couple songs that I’m not completely a fan of. But there are way more ideas that I’m not a fan of sitting on my computer waiting to be scavenged later.
