đ Kyoto, in Sound: an invitation to step aside from the rush,
listen to the city at a slower pace, and leave with a piece of its soul.
What happens when we step quietly through an ancient city and tune into what can be heard rather than just seen? Over-tourism causes Kyoto to feel more hurried every year. Yet, pockets of calm can still be found within this beautiful city. Places where you can hear the hush between the temple bells and the sound of leaves being swept.
As a sound artist, Iâve spent years guiding sound walks and composing field recordings around the world. From Tokyoâs neon canyons to shrines engulfed in moss and riversides here in Kyoto. My music has featured in installations, films, and collaborations with artists and listeners who simply want to experience a place with more presence.
What is a Kyoto Sound Walk?
A private, mindful exploration of Kyoto. Just you, or bring a friend. (max. 2 guests)
2â3 unhurried hours in lesser-known corners of Kyoto. Weâll be guided by the sound of the city, not by crowds or guidebooks.
We travel light. Iâll provide a high-quality field recorder for you to use. No technical experience needed.
Together, weâll pause, listen, and collect the textures of the city. Temple bells, birdsong, rain on ancient stone. Whatever we may find.
After the walk, Iâll mix what you record into a bespoke soundscape. A uniquely personal audio memento of your time here.
Who is This For?
Travellers who want to step off the well-worn path.
Anyone feeling numbed by modern noise, hurried tourism, and constant connection.
People seeking creative inspiration. Artists, writers, listeners, wanderers.
No experience necessary; only curiosity and comfortable shoes.
These walks are an invitation.
A chance to practice the art of attention,
and leave with a unique sound memory of your own.

These walks are for anyone ready to pay gentle attention. Photography and social media are welcome, but for most of the walk weâll let those go in favour of sound.
